The Hartford Wire Works was founded by Henry Crossthwaite in 1870 on Asylum Street in Hartford. The company was later headquartered on Allyn Street, and played host to the early days of the UConn Law School. In 1981, the company moved to Windsor, Connecticut.
The company has been a small, family-owned business for its entire history. The Litke family purchased the company in 1948, and was profiled for the company’s 125th anniversary in 1995. The company passed to a new family in 2015. However, it retained all of the highly experienced, long-term workforce to provide customers with the quality and craftsmanship that they’ve grown to expect.
Hartford Wire has been trusted with a number of high-profile, iconic projects in its long history. These include Corning Fountain in Bushnell Park, the University of Hartford, Manson Laboratories, the Beardsley Zoo, and the railing infill panels at Fenway Park.
